Home of multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites
The cultural heritage of Sri Lanka is one of the few small spaces of land home to multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From its ancient ruins to colonial fortresses, Sri Lanka is a cultural hotspot that symbolizes a society that was at the peak of civilization at its time. Through trade with Arabs in the early centuries, the country became known for its exotic spices especially cinnamon which paved the way for the Dutch to develop the canal systems to the rich interiors. Under the British Empire, the country paved the way for Ceylon Tea and railways which connected Colombo to the central hills.
